Celebrate Hope in the Living Lord this Easter

Friday Jesus died on the cross. Saturday, for one day, the world thought it was without Jesus. It seemed the prophesy would not be fulfilled. What of this king who was supposed to come and save them? A world without Jesus would have been a dark world, one without hope. Even the disciples were dejected, not believing Jesus promise to rise again. But on Sunday two women found hope waiting for them in the form of an empty tomb.

“After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.” Matthew 28:1-10

Oh, the joy that comes in the morning after a dark and terrible night! Imagine the relief, the celebration, the excitement the women would have felt. Certainly some fear would have accompanied those feelings. Jesus’ resurrection would have been incomprehensible in those first moments. Shock must have overcome them as well. To be so deeply in grief one moment and to learn the next that their Lord was in fact alive would have been a lot to process. Then to actually see Jesus, touch Jesus, hear his voice. Their minds must have been racing as they tried to make sense of it all.

The women were “running”, bursting at the seams to tell this good news, unable to contain themselves. What woman doesn’t like to share a nice juicy piece of gossip? Especially one as good as this? Think of the reaction they got when they told the news. I think God knew reveling this information first to a couple of women ensured that the whole world would soon find out.

I hope this Easter you feel the joy that Mary Magdalene and Mary felt that morning.  Christ paid the cost for your sin when he suffered and died on the cross.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins… Ephesians 1:7

You don’t have to do anything but believe and ask him to forgive you.

…Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved… Acts 16:31

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

He rose again, conquering death, ensuring that if you believe you too will have eternal life. For those who do believe, Jesus is a constant source of guidance, strength and above all else hope.

I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

No matter what you face in this world, if you have received salvation through Jesus Christ, you have the promise of eternal life in heaven someday with Him and God his father.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” John 14:1-3

If you know you’re going to Heaven someday celebrate today the hope you have in the Living Jesus. If you don’t know, make today the day you choose salvation and eternity through Jesus Christ.
