About

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the blog-o-sphere.

I’m Colleen, a 33 year old wife and SAHM. My son, David, is 3 1/2 years old. He’s funny, smart, mischievous and full of energy. I love being a mom, but some days I feel like I’m in a Mommie Daze.

I’m happily married to my best friend (and our son’s namesake), Dave, who always gives me something to laugh about, whether it’s with him or at him. He works really hard to support our family, and is a talented singer, songwriter and musician.

We live in West Michigan. I love the blue skies and lakeshore in the summer, and hate the cold temps and snow in the winter.

It took me about 2 1/2 years to recover from the fog or new motherhood and decompress from my old job. There were a lot days I woke up, and was just so happy not to go to work, I didn’t mind having nothing to do but cook and clean all day. Then about a year ago I realized that I missed having a creative outlet, so I started blogging.

While you’re here I hope you find something that encourages you or puts a smile on your face.

What I Am, What I Am Not

I don’t home school. I’m just trying to teach my three-year-old his ABC’s and 123’s.

The only thing “going green” around here is last week’s leftovers.

I only have one son. No multiple births, no unusually large family.

We don’t suffer from any rare diseases.

I don’t scrapbook. All the cutting and pasting? Don’t have the patience for it. My blog is my scrapbook and my journal.

I don’t sew unless I have to fix a button or a hem.

I’m not a tragically hip mom, not a crunchy-granola mom.

I’m not a frugal-make-your-own-baby-wipes mom. I don’t clip coupons and make money shopping at CVS.

I don’t belong to any counter-culture or anti-establishment movements.

I am not a homemaking expert. I clean because somebody has to do it.

I cook because I love to eat, a little more than I should. But I’m not a chef. My recipes usually belonged to someone else before I stole them.

I blog about marriage because I’ve been married long enough to have learned a thing or two, but I’m not an expert. I also have a thing or two more left to learn.

I don’t have an Etsy shop to plug.

I share about my faith, because my God is so good I can’t help but want to shout it from the top of the blog-o-sphere sometimes, but I’m not a blogging evangelist.

I try to avoid political and controversial topics, because I not doing this just for attention.

I’m not particularly angry about any subject.

I don’t have a cause to further.

The only cute photos I post are of my son. No cats eating cheeseburgers here.

I only gossip about myself.

But if you can relate to a real mom and a real wife and a real woman, really trying to do her best to serve her God, and take care of her family in this all too real world, stick around.

How I got Here

I grew up in Northwestern Ohio and Northeast Indiana. I am fortunate to have two loving Christian parents. I’m a pastor’s kid, teacher’s kid and an only child. Somehow I managed to survive all three.

I graduated from Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN where I majored in Communications and met my husband. I left college for the real world and worked for a year as a newspaper reporter, but quickly discovered that with a non-confrontational personality, it wasn’t the right job for me. I left that for a job writing and designing advertising and marketing materials for a small company.

I grew up thinking that I would be a career woman. But one day, sitting at my desk day-dreaming of all the “homemaking” things I could be doing instead of staring at a computer all day, I realized what I really wanted was to just be a wife and mom. So after six years of marriage, I quit my job and had a baby.

When I quit my job, we cut our income in half. It was a big leap of faith, but we learned to live on a smaller budget and the Lord has provided everything we need. Sometimes we have a little extra, sometimes we have a little less, but we always have just enough. It’s worth forgoing the new cars and expensive vacations to spend my days caring for my family.

I am also a stay at home Mom. I have two boys. I was also a PK. I, in some ways, was like an only child as my 4 brothers were all older. Come by my blog and give your tips.
